About Business Credit Cards

In recent months, it has been mentioned frequently about issues relating to extreme credit card debt which has been calculated around £3 billion, it has been the subject of many government agendas who want to put such problems right. When it comes to business credit cards, it is often unreported about the levels of debt that can contribute to this figure.

If you work for a company where the use of business credit cards are required then any financial matters relating to this will be under control but there is the chance of missing repayments and this can lead to dire circumstances.

Business related debt will be like any other to begin with but it is not only unprofessional in the eyes of your customers but it could lead to your business being closed down completely due to bankruptcy.

Always bear in mind the pros and cons when it comes to business credit cards because if it is not necessary then I would avoid taking out one or more business credit cards. Whilst it is unlikely that business related debt will occur, there is no way of predicting your annual business turnover and this could lead to missing one or more of the repayments.

In most cases, it is suggested that you wait until your business is established well enough to handle the responsibility of one or more business credit cards because unexpected business expenses can occur and not keeping up the repayments will result in possible liquidation, bankruptcy or worse, the bailiffs visiting to recover any outstanding debt.

Ask yourself, especially in the early days of your business if any business credit cards are required and if the answer is no then I would avoid taking on the responsibility altogether because it can be very stressful and unnecessary.

If the answer is yes then you should use websites with tables to compare credit cards, so that you can search out the best deal. It is always important in business that you get the best deal on anything. By doing this you maximise profit and reduce costs.

What would business credit cards be used for?

There can be a number of reasons why business credit cards would be required with the most common reason being used to cover any travel expenses for business related meetings across the country or indeed the world.

This is not the only reasons as to why business credit cards would be used; the list could also be used for any of the following:

  • Equipment costs (in case of breakdown etc)
  • Refunds to customers
  • Stationary
  • Advertising
  • Staffing Costs

These are three of the other main reasons business credit cards would be used, it is most commonly on products which can be tax deductible.

As you can see from the lists above, it may be required that you need business credit cards to function appropriately but it is not a matter of life or death. Only use or apply for business credit cards to begin with when you feel 100% that you can afford all repayments and that you won’t end up with payments that are completely out of your reach due to inappropriate income.

If you are unsure whether or not you could afford such a facility then stay away until you are confident that you won’t be in debt or needing to declare bankruptcy as a result of misuse with business credit cards. There is nothing worse than such an eventuality occurring.
